DVA are pleased to have obtained consent for major refurbishment works to the Grade II listed St Patricks Garrison Church in Tidworth, Wiltshire.

DVA acted as lead consultant and architect for the scheme, which involved a comprehensive scheme of re-roofing, stonework repairs, stained glass re-leading, structural remediation, overhaul of the building services and fire safety improvements. The team proposed a sensitive scheme of repairs that prioritised the retention of historic fabric, and use of traditional materials and techniques, to preserve and secure the long-term use of the church.
The application for works was undertaken via the Southern Historic Churches Committee under the ecclesiastical exemption, following full Diocesan approval. Matthew Saunders of Historic Buildings and Places (Formerly the Ancient Monuments Society) noted ‘The repair philosophy expounded here sounds commendably conservation-minded’.
The team undertook a detailed review of the churches building fabric, identifying the extent of repair work required. This was coordinated with the relevant specialists to ensure a thorough and considered scheme of work was put forward to enhance the appearance and functionality of the Grade II listed Church, to ensure its continued purpose, serving both the military and public for ecclesiastical events and services.
The construction works are expected to begin in 2026, so more photos to follow!
